OFF-BROADWAY SMASH BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND JUNE 3 – JULY 18 PROVIDENCE – Trinity Rep is pleased to announce that Menopause the Musical®, the off-Broadway smash hit, will return to its Chace Theater for a special engagement this June. The show played to packed houses last summer, and was extended due to popular demand. Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, Menopause The Musical® will be at the Lederer Theater Center, home of Trinity Repertory Company, for a special engagement from June 3 – July 18. Single tickets will go on sale Saturday, March 6 and discounted prices for groups of 10 or more are also available. The show, which has become an international phenomenon was written by Jeanie Linders and is produced by South Florida-based GFour Productions. Menopause The Musical® has been seen by nearly 11 million people in 14 countries since it debuted in a 76-seat perfume-shop-turned-theater in Orlando, Florida in 2001. Billed as “The Hilarious Celebration of Women and The Change®,” the original, off-Broadway musical begins with four women, “Professional Woman,” “Soap Star,” “Iowa Housewife” and “Earth Mother,” at a Bloomingdale’s lingerie sale with nothing in common but a black lace bra –and hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex and day-to-day challenges with parents, children and partners. They share their ups and downs through a collection of classic baby boomer songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Disco hit “Stayin’ Alive” becomes “Stayin’ Awake,” Motown favorite “My Guy” is transformed into “My Thighs,” "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" switches to "In the Guest Room or on the Sofa, My Husband Sleeps at night,” and “Puff The Magic Dragon” becomes the anthem to exercise, “Puff, My God I’m Draggin’.” “The show has become a point of relating, a celebration of a life passage that launches women into a new exciting phase of their lives,” says writer, Jeanie Linders. “Most women know intuitively what every other woman is facing with the onset of the menopause. They talk about it with their friends and, on occasion with their spouses. But, when they are in a theater with hundreds of women, and they’re all shouting ‘That’s Me!’ then they know what they are experiencing is normal. They call it a sisterhood!” Menopause The Musical® will take to the stage of the Chace Theater at Trinity Rep June 3 – July 18. The show has a 2 PM curtain time for all matinees and a 7:30 PM curtain time for all evening performances. Single tickets are priced at $45 and can be purchased by calling 401-351-4242, visiting the Trinity Rep box office at 201 Washington St. in Providence, or online at www.trinityrep.com. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $40 per person, and can book now by calling 401-351-4242. Groups of 50 or more qualify for a ticket price of $38. |
