Radio Theater presents short stories by O. Henry

New episode of radio show to air May 2-3-4 on WRNI

PROVIDENCE, RI: The May episode of Trinity Rep Radio Theater explores the work of early the 20th century American writer O. Henry. Known for witty narration, ordinary people, and surprise endings, stories like "The Gift of the Magi" defined the form for a generation of short story writers. The new installment of the show airs Friday, May 2nd at 8:00PM, Saturday, May 3rd at 1:00PM and Sunday, May 4th at 11:00AM and features the O. Henry short stories "The Ransom of Red Chief" and "Tobin's Palm."

Trinity Repertory actors Timothy Crowe, William Damkoehler, Janice Duclos and Mauro Hantman join Curt Columbus on the program hosted by WRNI's Morning Edition Host Bob Seay.

In "The Ransom of Red Chief," two small-time crooks discover their "perfect crime" isn't foolproof -- and they learn the hard way. "Tobin's Palm" is read by a shady Coney Island fortune teller -- but against all odds, her predictions seem to come true.

The Trinity Rep Radio Theater was created in partnership with WRNI, Rhode Island’s NPR News. The monthly program resurrects radio as a dynamic medium of theatrical performance, bringing the listener intimately close to the dramatic moments created by master authors and playwrights.

WRNI General Manager Joe O'Connor praises Trinity Rep Radio Theater as "a magical hour that feels timeless, with performances that entertain and illuminate." O'Connor says the show is "a smoothly intertwined mix of conversation and context resulting in remarkable storytelling - as if you had the finest actors and their director around your kitchen table."

The series is broadcast on WRNI 129AM Providence, 1230AM Westerly, and 102.7FM Narragansett/ Archived episodes and free podcast subscriptions are also available for online at www.wrni.org. Trinity Rep Radio Theater is made possible in part by generous support from The Rhode Island Foundation, a charitable community trust serving the people of Rhode Island. The program is co-produced by Trinity Rep Acting Company member Janice Duclos and Emily Atkinson, Artistic Associate for Communication.
