TRINITY REP ANNOUNCES 47TH SEASON OF PLAYS

TRINITY REP ANNOUNCES 47TH SEASON OF PLAYS
CAMELOT, THE CRUCIBLE, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, YELLOWMAN & MORE

PROVIDENCE, RI: Trinity Rep is proud to announce that its 2010-2011 season of plays will celebrate the universal theme of personal legacy. Artistic Director Curt Columbus states “A new decade is upon us; one filled with hope and excitement. I'm so thrilled to announce our upcoming season, one I think you'll find imbued with this same sense of promise.”

The season opens in September with Camelot, the musical that has become synonymous with that “…one brief shining moment” of a country’s renewed sense of hope and patriotism. “The story of Camelot still has a lot to say to us today," Columbus explains, “Trinity Rep’s reimagining of this classic American musical will show audiences the power at the core of the story. We will be stripping away all of the expected trappings of traditional knights and fair maidens to focus on the complicated love triangle set in a world of political intrigue.”

In October, high and low-brow comedy collide head-on in Alan Ayckbourn’s farce Absurd Person Singular. New for the holidays will be a limited run of the classic It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry. The perfect complement to Trinity Rep’s annual holiday production of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the six person cast of It’s a Wonderful Life will take the stage through the month of December.

The dramatic highlight of the season (and centerpiece of our Project Discovery educational program) will be Arthur Miller’s classic drama, The Crucible, helmed by company member Brian McEleney from February through March. Also in February, Dael Orlandersmith’s Yellowman tells the tale of a romance that is thwarted by society’s stifling hand. Spring will find the ladies of the acting company in the spotlight for Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias from April to May. Closing the season will be The Completely Fictional—Utterly True—Final Strange Tale of Edgar Allan Poe, a world premiere work by resident acting company member Stephen Thorne, written for Trinity Rep’s nationally renowned resident acting company.
