Trinity Rep Names Tyler Dobrowsky As New Associate Artistic Director

Craig Watson to retire after 15 years

PROVIDENCE – Trinity Rep is pleased to announce that Tyler Dobrowsky, formerly its Education Director, will be taking over the Associate Artistic Director post from Craig Watson, who retired this month after 15 years in the position.

“Craig Watson’s presence will be missed by all of the staff and artists at Trinity Rep. His contribution to Trinity is incalculable, since during the past decade and more, he has nurtured numerous writers, produced plays, readings and workshops, and championed the work that has appeared on our stages.  We are all grateful for his remarkable service to the theater,” stated Artistic Director Curt Columbus.

Watson, who first joined the Board of Trinity Rep in 1992, later serving as a consultant on strategic planning and marketing/communications, was responsible for the creation of the Mable T. Woolley Literary Department and served as Associate Artistic Director for the last four seasons. He will continue to lead season planning and artistic development as the Literary Manager through June 2010. Watson, an award-winning poet, plans to spend time writing and teaching after his retirement from Trinity Rep.

Tyler Dobrowsky has served as education director for five years. He oversaw the expansion of the Young Actors Studio after-school and summer programs, as well as Trinity’s landmark Project Discovery program, which has enabled over one million students throughout New England to discover live theater since its inception in 1966. Tyler received his MA in Education Policy from Brown University, and studied history, theater and Russian at Holy Cross. He joined Trinity Rep's staff in 2003 as an intern.

“Tyler Dobrowsky has made enormous enhancements to the programming in that area, as well as working behind the scenes on productions here at Trinity during that entire tenure.  His energy, intelligence, and vision are evident in all of his work, and his presence as associate artistic director will assure that education remains front and center in all of our programming efforts,” continued Columbus.

Caroline Azano will now helm the Education Department. She helps run the Young Actors Studio, Project Discovery and the Young Actors Summer Institute, and has expanded the High School Ambassador program, created Playreading Aloud, and runs several long-term in-school residencies around the state. She is a resident director and teaching artist at the Barrington Community Theater. Caroline is a certified theater educator by the state of Massachusetts. She received a BA in Theater Education from Emerson College before joining Trinity Rep in 2006 as an intern.

“We're especially pleased because both Tyler and Carrie came up through Trinity's internship program, alongside General Manager Rachel Tischler and many other important staff at the theater.  This program, which grooms young professionals for a career in arts administration, is a significant resource not only to Trinity Rep, but also to many, many other institutions in the field of the American theater," stated Columbus.
