Trinity Rep Radio Theater Presents O. Henry Encore For July Show

Works by classic American storyteller will air July 2-4 on WRNI

PROVIDENCE, RI: Trinity Rep continues its fourth season of Trinity Rep Radio Theater, created in partnership with WRNI, Rhode Island’s only independent NPR News station, with an encore presentation of O. Henry’s stories next month. Hosted by WRNI’s Morning Edition Host Bob Seay, the next installment of the show will air the weekend of July 2-4, 2010.

Artistic Director Curt Columbus alongside resident acting company members Timothy Crowe, William Damkoehler, Janice Duclos and Mauro HaBntman will read and discuss “The Ransom of Red Chief” and “Tobin’s Palm.”

"This show features some of our favorite stories," said producer Emily Atkinson. “In ‘The Ransom of Red Chief,’ a couple of small-time grifters think they’ll make a quick buck kidnapping the banker’s son, but it turns out this kid is enough to make a grown crook cry. Bill, Mauro and Tim have a ball with O. Henry’s characters and twists.”

Trinity Rep Radio theater “resurrects radio as a dynamic medium of theatrical performance – placing the listener squarely in the intimacy of the moment created by master authors and playwrights,” states WRNI General Manager Joe O’Connor.  “The program came about thanks to Curt Columbus’ hard work, creative energies and eagerness to feature his terrific troupe of actors and add to the tradition of excellence that is the signature of WRNI, Rhode Island’s NPR News Station.”

July’s installment of Trinity Rep Radio Theater will broadcast on WRNI 1290AM Providence and 102.7FM Narragansett on Friday, July 2 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 3 at 1:00 p.m.; and Sunday, July 4 at 11:00 a.m. Free podcast subscriptions are also available online at www.wrni.org.

The program is co-produced by Trinity Rep Acting Company member Janice Duclos and Emily Atkinson, Artistic Associate for Communications.
