Project Discovery Matinees Education Programs for Children, Teens, and Teachers Any amount helps support our educational programs
This season marks the 42nd Anniversary of Project Discovery. Trinity Rep has been a leader in arts education, believing that theater has a unique power to enrich and transform young people's lives.
The classic Project Discovery program has given more than 1 million students the chance to experience live professional theater at a discounted price through student matinees. For teachers, Project Discovery is a powerful tool for bringing literature to life, aided by Trinity Rep's comprehensive, standards-based study guides and professional development workshops. Classroom workshops and residencies, from single visits to semester-long programs, are available through in-school workshops and in-school residencies. Students who choose to explore the world of professional theater in greater depth can participate in Project Discovery's School-to-Career Initiative of backstage tours, career workshops, job shadows and internships, as well as the extracurricular programs Theater Ambassadors and Trinity Rep Teen Collaborative. Project Discovery Student Matinee Series For reservations to all Project Discovery performances, contact Jordan Butterfield, Education Programs Manager and Teaching Artist at (401) 521-1100 X114 or email jbutterfield@trinityrep.com. Through the generous support of our funders, the “classic” Project Discovery program offers special matinee performances of all main stage productions at a substantially reduced admission price. Selected performances include a post-show discussion with the actors. Teachers will also receive a comprehensive study guide, which highlights themes in the text and suggests standards-based activities for integrating the performance into the classroom curriculum. Teachers are welcome to reproduce these guides in part or in whole. Download Study Guides here >. Teachers who plan to bring students to a Project Discovery student matinee are strongly encouraged to attend a Professional Development workshop around the play of their choice:
- $14 per student ticket for main stage shows
- 1 free adult ticket per 15 students
- Each additional adult ticket will be $28
Have an actor in your classroom! You have the chance to have one of our actors or education staff members in your classroom to prepare them for the performance. The workshops can focus on the themes of the play, how an actor prepares A scene and costume design. Workshops for Twelfth Night are FREE. Project Discovery Funders Project Discovery's programs are made possible in part by The Hearst Foundation; CVS Caremark Charitable Trust; Textron; The Yawkey Foundation; Rhode Island State Council on the Arts; Rhode Island Health and Educational Building Corporation; Amgen; Mr. and Mrs. Norman E.
