Young Actors Studio

Trinity Rep’s Young Actors Studio provides in-depth year-round programming for students interested in theater. Four semesters of introductory classes are taught by our education staff, and year round advanced classes are taught by members of our resident acting company. Introductory classes take place over fall, winter and spring trimesters, and focus on playwriting, basic acting skills, improvisation and scene study. Year Round Advanced Programs

Classes meet throughout the year, and are taught by members of our resident acting company along with our education staff. Students receive complimentary tickets to Trinity Rep productions.  Payments for all three classes can be made in installments.

YEAR-ROUND ADVANCED PROGRAMS
Teen Collaborative
This is our most advanced program for high school students, and is the perfect class for an aspiring actor or artist. A writing and performance based ensemble, the Collaborative:
  • studies exclusively with Trinity actors and education staff 
  • Attends every Trinity Rep production.
  • studies scene study, movement, voice and ensemble work and improvisation
  • Middle School Theater EXPLOSION
    The Middle School Theater EXPLOSION is our advanced program for middle school students in grades 7-9. The Middle School Theater EXPLOSION:

    • studies with Trinity Rep education staff members.
    • Attends every Trinity Rep production.
    • studies playwriting, scene study, improvisation, with a special emphasis on Shakespeare as well as theater history

      The Middle School Theater EXPLOSION meets once a week on Wednesdays from 4-6pm. The first class is Sept. 22. There are three presentations throughout the year open to family and friends.
      Cost: $600.

    Junior Ensemble
    The Junior Ensemble is our advanced program for younger students, grades 5-7. The Junior Ensemble:

    • studies with Trinity Rep education staff members

    • attends Trinity’s production of A Christmas Carol as well as The Crucible and Camelot

    •  studies playwriting, scene study, movement, and are introduced to different forms of theater, such as Shakespeare, Commedia dell’arte and kabuki.

    Grades 5-7
    Class starts Sept 20 and runs throughout the year
    Mondays, 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
    There are three presentations throughout the year open to family and friends.
    Cost: $500.

    The Trinity Zoo - Trinity's own teen improv group!
    NOTE: The Trinity Zoo is FULL for 2010-2011.

    Run by company member Mauro Hantman, the Trinity Zoo meets every Saturday at 10am at the Pell Chafee Performance Center. Auditions for the Zoo are held in the early fall. If interested, please contact education@trinityrep.com

    Acting the Song with Rachael Warren
    NOTE: Acting the Song is FULL for 2010-2011.

    This is a FREE program for advanced middle and high-school students interested in deeply exploring the art of extending theatrical expression through music. Like a musical 'scene study' class, students will work on solos (monologues), duets (scenes), and larger ensemble numbers. Come to Trinity and have the opportunity to learn and create in a safe, supportive environment with company member Rachael Warren and pianist Vicki Dorazio. The class meets on Sunday mornings. Space is very limited and admission is by audition/interview only. Auditions are held in the Fall. Contact education@trinityrep.com for more details.

     
    K-3 Classes (catch the theater bug early!) 
    Trinity Rep now offers classes for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade!  Classics will focus on the basics of acting, creating characters and developing a story.

    For students who are just beginning to discover the joy of theater, or are too busy to take our year round classes, we offer trimester classes for students in grades 4-12 These classes touch on scene-study, playwriting and improvisation and are taught by our education staff. each class culminates with a performance open to friends and family.

    Playreading Aloud!
    High school students are invited to expand their theatrical horizons in the Playreading Aloud program. The group meets twice a month to read contemporary plays that they might not otherwise be exposed to until college or beyond. Students meet at the theater to learn about, read, and discuss plays by Tony Kushner, Sarah Ruhl, Neil Simon, Caryl Churchill, Jose Rivera, Christopher Durang, David Mamet, Paula Vogel, Connie Congdon, and many more!     TRINITY TECHIES
    For students more interested in working backstage instead of on it, we have The Trinity Techies!  The Trinity Techies will meet several times throughout the year.  The Techies will:
    • Observe one tech rehearsal for each show
    • Meet with a designer or member of the production team for each show
    • Attend every Trinity production
    The cost to be a Trinity Techie for the season is $100.  Please contact education@trinityrep.com to register.  For grades 7 and up.

Enrollment for after-school classes typically remains open until the first day of class. Enrollment for the summer institute begins in December, and fills quickly.
