Sure, they could travel to Boston or New York, but they wanted great theater here, in Providence. And so Trinity Rep was born. Understanding that artists who work together over long periods of time, in a collective environment, create richer, more interesting, more intense lives onstage, Trinity Rep adopted the resident company model, and Trinity Rep's artists put down roots in this community.
Trinity Rep has one of the few remaining resident acting companies in the United States. We have 13 immensely talented individuals who are central to our identity and our work. With the arrival of Artistic Director Curt Columbus in 2006, we began to deepen our relationship with the company drawing on their creativity and engaging them in artistic and educational pursuits off the stage. The company has played an integral role in the expansion of our education programs, the production of our radio show, and the creation of new work. All were hired to join a company of actors but we have discovered, as we have nurtured and encouraged further exploration of their unique talents, that we have a rare treasure, indeed: a true company of artists.
