Doug Brandt

Musical Direction

Doug Brandt is a composer and actor based in New York. He has written and arranged scores for several productions directed by Liesl Tommy, including Two Girls from Vermont: A Dirty Pop Extravaganza (Special Audience Award from the New York International Fringe Festival); a workshop of A Glass Me-nagerie, New York Theater Workshop; and Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare in the Park[ing Lot]. He also wrote a faux soap opera music for the comedy Coming Soon (Key Theater). Doug recently completed the book, lyrics, and music for a one-act musical Barf, a comedy about three bulimic women, and is working on a new musical that explores the reproductive habits of the cuttlefish and squid (and a marine biologist). His sacred choral music has been performed around the country, including two Jewish liturgical pieces (Sh’ma and Mi Chamocha), which were premiered in 2007 by the Westchester Oratorio Society, and The White Owl, a Christmas piece that is receiving its New York premiere in December. When he was a Conservatory student at Trinity Rep, Doug performed on the main stage as Jacey Squires in The Music Man and all of the servants in Romeo and Juliet. Songs from Barf can be heard at myspace.com/dougbrandtmusic.
