It’s July which means YASI (our Young Actors’ Summer Institute) is in full swing. If you’re at all near downcity Providence we’re sure you hear the belting voices and rumbling dances of our incredible students bringing their all everyday to class.

Every year, students enrolled in YASI Shakes, our elective for 10-12th graders and graduating seniors dedicated to mounting a full Shakespeare production work for weeks on their performance and stay at YASI an extra week to make it all happen. We are THRILLED to announce this summer’s YASI Shakes show is…

MACBETH!

That’s right, the Scottish Play is taking the stage this summer and our students are getting ready to dig in. To shake up the program this year (pun intended), the famed play will be presented as a musical. Who’s excited? We are!

Directed by Jeff Church, this production will feature existing songs and incorporate them into the Bard’s famous work (a la Trinity Rep’s recent production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, full of 80s music).

Stop by the Barker Playhouse on Benefit St. in Providence on August 4th or 5th at 7:30 pm to see the wonderful production. We can’t wait to show you what these students can do!
