Trinity Rep creates an encouraging environment with ample opportunities for young people of all ages and abilities.
Trinity Rep’s Young Actors Studio provides in-depth programming for students interested in all aspects of theater. General acting classes taught by our education staff take place over fall, winter and spring trimesters and focus on different acting techniques, playwriting, improvisation, and scene study. Year-round advanced classes are taught by members of our education staff, resident acting company and artistic staff. Learn more.
YASI (Young Actors Summer Institute) & SAS (Summer Actors Institute)
Our Young Actors Summer Institute (YASI) programs have historically been some of the most comprehensive summer arts enrichment programs in New England. Due to COVID-19, our typical structure of students moving through multiple classes per day seems out of reach for 2021. In an effort to grow our in-person offerings smartly and safely, we are holding several one-week camps with stable pods of students this summer. Additionally, we have two weeks of the Summer Actors Studio (SAS) held via Zoom. SAS classes are standalone, subject-based classes which, in our experience, work very well in the online format. There is something for everyone. Join us for just one class or all six weeks of camp! We welcome students of all experience levels and abilities. Learn more.
This playwriting competition is open to high school students throughout New England. Students are encouraged to submit a 10-minute play by the spring deadline. Four winners are chosen, but all submissions receive written feedback.
TRAIN (Trinity Rep Active Imagination Network)
In partnership with a variety of service organizations throughout Rhode Island, we offer engaging and high-spirited curriculum, which includes acting and improvisation, in order to give children and adults with autism, cognitive, and psychiatric disabilities the tools they need to learn, communicate, and build self-esteem.
Founded in 2007 by Trinity Rep resident acting company member Mauro Hantman, the Trinity Zoo is Trinity Rep’s premiere teen improv troupe. Now, under the direction of local actor and improviser, Dave Rabinow, the Zoo rehearses each Sunday afternoon and performs a few times per year around the state.
Since 1996, Trinity Rep’s Teen Ambassadors program has brought together motivated young people from communities across Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts, united by their common interest in theater. Teen Ambassadors meet 2-3 times a month throughout the school year, see each mainstage production free of charge, and participate in discussions and master classes with Trinity Rep staff.
