Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA), in association with Trinity Repertory Company, announces Teatro en El Verano’s 10th anniversary production, ¡Que Diablos! Fausto, adapted by Jesús Valles from Christopher Marlowe’s play, Doctor Faustus. Directed by Armando Rivera, this touring production runs July 5 – August 1 in parks across the state of Rhode Island, including Payne Park, Dexter Park, Roger Williams Park, Jenks Park, and more.
ABOUT THE SHOW
In the depths of the earth between heaven and hell, demons and humans fiercely fight for souls. One such human, Faust, lets his desire for knowledge and power lead him into a deal with the devil himself! A darkly comedic, bilingual take on the 17th century play Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlow, this adaptation is infused with music, humor, and a thoughtful message that will stay with you long after the show ends. ¡Que Diablos! Fausto brings new life to the timeless tale of ambition, love, and redemption, all through the lens of Latino voices and artistry.
“Teatro en El Verano’s long standing commitment to fostering new bilingual Latino work is a tradition that I aspire to emulate in my own work,” director Armando Rivera said. “¡Que Diablos! Fausto is a particularly exciting adaptation! Its themes of power, desire and corruption are ripe for a contemporary update. Jesús Valles has cooked up a masterful take on the story that is rich with cultural specificity and a sharp bite in its political commentary. Just like the Marlowe original, this play will ride the line of sacred and profane that will enrapture audiences all across Rhode Island.”
