2020-21 Season Shift
With the health and safety of our artists, patrons, and staff as our top priority, Trinity Rep will shift the schedule of the previously announced 2020-21 Season. The subscription series lineup is now currently slated to begin in January 2021. We still plan to mount our 43rd consecutive new production of A Christmas Carol in November and December 2020.
Trinity Rep is committed to complying with all government and public health regulations and guidelines and implementing best practices for cleaning, sanitizing, and risk mediation. If public health necessitates further changes to the schedule, those adjustments will be made as more information is known. Detailed performance schedules will be announced and tickets will go on sale two to three months before shows begin.
All of the plays announced earlier in the spring will be produced, though two productions will shift to fall 2021. Subscribers will receive all six shows.
Spring and Summer 2020 Cancellations
Based on the recommendations and policies of local and federal officials and our own commitment to the health and well-being of our community, Trinity Rep made the difficult decision in mid-March to cancel all remaining performances in the 2019-20 Season. This impacted the full runs of Sweat and Sweeney Todd, and the final two weeks of A Tale of Two Cities, 83 performances in total. Related events for each of these shows were also cancelled.
For ticket holders of cancelled A Tale of Two Cities performances, the copyright holders and our union partners generously agreed to allow us to share a digital archival recording of the production via a secure online platform for a limited time. These cancelled ticket holders received a separate email with instructions.
Teatro en El Verano, our co-production with Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA) will use the summer to prepare for next year’s fifth anniversary of the program by developing a new script of Don Quixote.
Spring classes for adults and young students were cancelled or moved online in mid-March. Additional online classes were added to the schedule and continue to be formed.
The month-long YASI summer program for kids in grades 5-12 was cancelled in May.
YASI Masters, YASI Players, YASI Shakes, and YASI Junior – all one-week programs – are currently scheduled to run in August.
SUPPORTING TRINITY REP
It is impossible to cancel weeks of performances, classes, and events without creating serious and lasting hardships for your Trinity Rep, staff, and artists. As a non-profit organization that relies heavily on your support, we hope you will consider donating your tickets back to Trinity Rep as a tax-deductible donation or refunding your tickets to a gift card for a future purchase, rather than asking for a refund. As we will be assisting a lot of patrons, we ask patrons to complete the online form or wait for a call from the box office staff.
As a non-profit organization that employs many staff members and artists living paycheck to paycheck and one that plans to be here for you and them when we all return to some sense of normalcy, we ask that you support your Trinity Rep in any way you can at this time, including with your patience and generous spirit.
