William Andrew Young (he/him) is the Cutter/Draper and Costume Shop Supervisor at Trinity Repertory Company. His role in the collaborative process of bringing a costume to life is to interpret the designer’s vision into patterns that translate into dimensional space as constructed garments.

William holds an MFA in Costume Technology from the Pennsylvania State University, and he earned his BS in Landscape Design (and a second major in theatre) from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has worked as crafts artisan for the Great River Shakespeare Festival, Clarence Brown Theatre, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, and Utah Shakespeare Festival (four seasons), and briefly with Mio Design in NYC as both intern and draper. He is the 2020 recipient of USITT’s Barbara Matera Award for Costume Making and the Bernhard R. Works Master Crafts award, and he strives to draw attention to the artistry that goes into building a costume. When William isn’t working, he is usually exploring nature in whatever ways he can!
